Hi! My name is Linda and I just joined this forum. My finance' and his son both race motocross and I do okay with pictures outside. I just bought a new canon rebel camera so now i'm learning all over again. My finance's son is also racing supercross and i've never taken pictures inside so I'm going to need some guidence. I have a new lens 75 to 300 which I thought is what I would need to use. Any advise before going to the next race in Houston TX?

thanks
Linda

As a mx shooter myself, and owning the Canon XSi, 70-300mm f4-5.6, and a 580EX II- I can strongly say that your lens WILL NOT produce nice pictures indoors, especially motorsports, or any sports for that matter!

What you will NEED is a 70-200 f2.8 lens at the minimum for Supercross, if you are not trackside indoors.

You will need to max out the ISO to 1600 on the Rebel also to get the fast shutter speeds.

Any glass f2.8 will work for you, IF you can get positioned right.

BTW, what # is your fiance?

Tell him good luck next time out!

Supercross indoors, from a Rebel 300d and a 75-300mm III lens.

Using available light, got from 1/200-1/320 at ISO 800 and f/5.6 using the 75-300mm. Worked with no problems.

His number is 231 on a kawi and his name is Jake Lowry. This is his first year to race supercross so as you know he will have to qualify and make the main. I don't know that I will be able to get any good pictures since we are leaving for houston next friday. I will be sitting where ever they let the riders sit since I will have pit passes. Thanks for all of your help. I'm looking for a new lens now. :)
