Here's the link (http://www.ucsbwomenstennis.info/) to the base page for my tennis images. I will shoot another match tomorrow morning if it doesn't get rained out. I've been shooting UCSB Women's Tennis for five years (this is my sixth), starting with film in a Nikon N70, then an F100, then a Nikon Coolpix 950, then a Fuji S2 Pro and now with a Canon 1D Mark II. Once I get the hang of CDP forums I'm hoping to be able to share experience, settings, setup and tips with other tennis shooters.

Dwight, I hope you are a fast learner and get a hang of those CDP forums (whatever that is?) quickly. My son's HS tennis season starts next week and while I have some experience shooting him, I can't wait to see your tips and tricks.

Ha, I'm quoting myself here
Dwight, I just found an old thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=100632&highlight=tennis)that you responded to and it has wonderful information. One question: you mentioned that one should try to get shots of when the ball hits the racket or just after. A lot of players, my son included, don't make the prettiest faces in these moments. Would you still prefer to time the shots this way or maybe just before the ball hits the racket? The two you posted above seem to be before shots.
Another question: do you shoot RAW? I know that many sports shooters shoot jpg because of the sheer volume.

Yea, I realized that as soon as I pressed the button on my second reply. I guess that's why I didn't know what you were talking about above
Doesn't matter, my questions are still out there if anyone has answers :)

Last year I walked onto the courts with $30K worth of equipment to shoot a match. One of girls walked up to me and said she wanted me to remove a picture of her from my website. No sooner had she gotten it out of her mouth then another one wanted a picture removed. Then there were six wanting different pictures removed. I looked all of them and said, "I'll go take care of that now.", packed up my cameras and left, forever. I removed the images from my website (well, the inline links) and haven't shot the Princesses since. So I haven't shot tennis for over a year.

See Ed's correct response below! :-)

Yup, shooting tennis is documentary, not portraits, and people doing hard things make strange faces ... see my first reply in this post above ... that's what the girls didn't like. The people look like the people look ... I personally find the more scrunched the face the better, particularly on the girls ... it shows the intensity and power!
Dwight,

I no longer shoot tennis ... see above in this post.

I am more than happy to have this thread hijacked for tennis photography discussion. :D
The link at the beginning of this thread is defunct ... I no longer own the domain name! :-)

I now get paid for my work, so that is a goodness. But I would be overjoyed to have you pick up the lamp of enlightenment on tennis shooting! ROFLMAO that someone else can take the lumps instead of me.
