I'm considering having one camera converted for infra-red photography and wonder if any of you have dealt with a company called LDP LLC in Carlstadt NJ?
Any other sources appreciated too. Thanks.

Lifepixel.com and MaxMax.com.

Had my 20D done by LifePixel. No way I can describe the incredible customer service and communication skills of a gentleman named Dan who answers the phones.

Conversion was turned around in the same day received and perfectly done. Camera takes stunning IR photos. Research the camera you are going to have converted. Anti-aliasing filter or not, some behave differently and better than others.

Never heard of your company but I can probably safely say that when perusing forums, you will find that LifePixel and MaxMax are without a doubt the two topmost recommended

What Canned Heat said...I used Lifepixel to convert an older 10D that I have. Having a converted body makes it so much easier to shoot IR without the need for filters and long exposures.

Also, there's a thread (in the Lens forum, I believe) that lists many lenses that are suitable for IR photography and some that aren't (mainly because they exhibit hot spots in the image). Try a search for it...I'm sure that it'll turn up.

That's interesting. I'll have to look for the list myself. I have not had any problem. While chatting with the lifepixel tech, he never said anything at all about hot spots. The only issue they have, he said, is with the focus plane. He also said the one lens they just can't get to (focus) well with canon cameras is the ef-s 10-22, which may be understandable considering the different optical engineering on that lens. I have used that lens successfully, but had to choke down on aperture to ensure it focused. Otherwise, I've used a whole lot of L lenses without a problem, either focus or hot spots. BTW, when the camera was converted I had them use the generic 50mm lens focus shift as opposed to shipping them a specific lens to use.

Found the thread here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=436172&highlight=infrared). Problem is, the guy who posted the list posted misleading info. That list is for people who shoot IR with filters. At the top of the list is the 10-22. If you call or email lifepixel and ask them if they can convert a canon and tune it specifically to that lens, they will say no - that they've always had problems with it.

The lenses I have shot with and all have performed flawlessly is:
Nifty Fifty
24-70
24-105
70-200
100-400
Tamron 90 1:1 macro
Tamron 18-250

Also note that nifty enough, the canon flashes (at least the 580 EX I and II) also seem to blast quite a bit of IR.

Thanks for the referrals. I will definitely check them out before jumping in. I used to shoot IR Film long ago and I'd like to get back into it with digital. I plan to convert my Sony R1 (APS C 10mp) since it doesn't get much use now I have a 40D and 5D2.

You can add one more to the conversion places: Jim Chen (http://www.jimchenphoto.com/digitalinfrared.html) who did my Rebel XT for me.
