Flash Bracket the easy way out?

Hi all, I got a Canon 100 macro lens for x-mas and have a question about flashes. I have a 430EXII with a diffuser but I can't get the light quite right. I can't really afford a ringlite let alone a twinlite flash right now. I've been looking at a quickflip flash bracket with the cord at Adorama. Will this suffice for the time being, forever, or should I save up. It'd be a casual thing but I do want to have fun and do well with it.
