Yesterday I spent the better part of the day photographing Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Here are some of the keepers. Hope you like them. I had to get up an hour and a half before sunrise to get these photos. Gas station Cappuccino is a nature photographer's best friend.

These are horses in Cades Cove. I took this photo about ten minutes before the sun came over the ridge.

Here's another Cades Cove pic. The morning fog and frost were great!!

Here's one of the hundreds of mountain creeks. My tripod had to get wet for this picture.

I took this one at a higher elevation. It had snowed the night before.

Some very nice shots. I'll be there in about a month, hoping to get some waterfalls and wildflowers, along with the mountains.

Thanks for all the comments. I had a blast taking these photos. I'm going back to the park in a couple of weeks to try for some more. It is great living near nice natural areas. The dogwoods should be blossoming soon and later on the rhododenrons. If I can get some time away from work you can expect a few more smokey mountain posts from me in the coming months.

Jeff,

if you want to see the rest of the series here is a link to my recent pics gallery. I am finally done editting. http://www.pbase.com/rbndave/recent_pictures

Swapcop,

If i lived as close to the park as you I'd get nothing done. I'd be running around like a madman with my tripod in the early morning mist everyday. I'm working out of knoxville this month and live in charlotte so I stopped in the park on my commute home. If you're a cop in the area tell all you coworkers not to pull over a black mazda protege with ohio plates. I'm just in a hurry to catch the good light.

Sparker,

Have fun on your trip. You might want to try shooting from clingmans dome at sunset and sunrise. Also, Cades cove is really nice early in the morning. there are tons of semi tame wild deer to photograph and also I saw a bunch of wild turkeys. Good luck.

Great shots Dave. I really like the cabin one. The shot of the snow covered trees almost looks IR.

THey are all great sgots in thier own right. I like Foggy landscape with deer accents, the best for its contrast.

It is interesting to see different peoples views.

Great shots... My parents used to take us there every summer for a week. Now I don't live that far away but haven't been there in a couple years! Your pics have me dying to go back, thanks!

Thanks again fr the great comments.

I'm planning another smokey mountain visit next weekend. This time I am bringing my girlfriend. Don't expect to see any sunrise photos. Maybe I can find some later in the day type shots, or maybe I can get her hooked on photography and she'll want to get up early to get the perfect shot. I doubt it.
