The Sam Kee Building was constructed in 1913 by Chang Toy after the city expropriated part of his land to widen Pender Street. In an act of defiance, he built the 1.8-metre-wide building.
Years later, the Guinness Book of World Records officially designated it the world’s narrowest building.
