I wanted to do a self portrait that was a bit more than just a good photo of me. So I saw the light shinning through the curtains and snapped away at arms length...No tripod just keep adjusting the settings according to the results. I used the heat and glare from the sun to tell when it was over my eye. What do you think ?

What was making the light like that? It is a interesting photo.

It was a small gap in the curtains that was letting the sun through.

I'm pretty sure that is the first of it's kind. Any others like it will be copying you.

It's different.
...and different is a good thing.

Wow... bit of a Marmite photo. You love it or hate it.

What about this version, more light and a little softer.

Both are good shots, I would describe them as dramatic. This could be a great technique for portraits if you are looking for a mood of mystery and drama in the subject.

It is very memorable photo, which is what really counts.

Both are very good, but I think I like the effect of the first one the best. Nice job.

Thanks all for the replies. I think this is my first photo that I really like. Shame its of me, makes me sound a bit egotistical. It's just that everyone was out, I had time to develop the idea, see the results go back retry and eventually end up with something that evolved from idea to finished shot. Normally I steal shots of other people. Or take as many as I like of buildings, which don't enthrall me. So this is the result of my first applied effort and I'm quite chuffed.

My Grandmother used to always say, "amateurs imitate, artists steal.";)

I like them both, nice work.

Its good to see more people doing self portraits. Makes it alot easier to put your own stuff out there when others are doing it too... Although I think you have raised the bar with these. Well done

The first shot is a great idea but need sworking on, it doesn't quite work for the unlit side of the face , maybe play around with the cropping, just one side etc

The second shot is a very clever

See how you also APPEAR tyo have a side shot as well as a front shot in the same shot?

I wish it was clever, I have to admit that was never my intention and until you mentioned it I hadn't even noticed, but that said your right, if you look at it as you would one of those pixel puzzles that change shape, then it does look like a profile as well as a frontal, almost picasso like.
