Here's another night exposure from London.

Another common subject: Big Ben. This one has the Eye of London gazing on it. ;)

1000 pixels wide really does not do justice to all of the detail in the night images the Canon 1Ds MkII can capture. In the original, the details in the tiny shields up in the top green light are very evident.

Some people criticize the Canon 17-40mm "L" lens, claiming it is too soft. I used Av mode with an f/11 aperture. I find that f/8-f/11 gives the sharpest result with zooms for landscapes/cityscapes than extreme apertures.

Cheers,

Mitch

OK. So now I want a 1Ds MK II. Great night shot.

Thanks, all. The 1Ds MkII is a really great camera.

My 20D is also a capable camera. Since I used the 40mm end of the 17-40mm "L", I could have gotten a very similar result with the 20D. Here's a link to an ikmage that requires a full 35mm frame to get the 17mm FOV.

That's a real impressive shot. A large print of it must be a mind blower.
