I took this from the back balcony of my house this afternoon. It is a RAAF F/A-18 Hornet doing a track fly-over for the Clipsal 500 Rally in Adelaide, Australia, this weekend. I heard the plane, and barely managed to run upstairs, change lenses, and get a few shots off from the balcony. This image is cropped right down, hence the poor resolution. I did some minimal post-processing (levels, sharpening). It's hardly an exceptional shot, just something interesting to see from the back of my house.

Canon EOS 20D, EF 55-200mm at 200mm, 1/1600, f/5.7, ISO 400.

Saw that buzzing around today for the race. Not the best shot but cool to see it having had it overhead today. Nice work

You are right, it's far from a great shot. Even at 200mm (x1.5), I was just too far away. In the original 3504x2336 JPG, the plane occupied a fraction of the shot. The posted image was a significant crop.

It also may have helped to use ISO 100, in bright sun like you shot, there is no reason at all to NOT use iso 100.

unless of course you're in a hurry or forget that you weren't in ISO100 [i've done that too many times ]
