Looking for feedback on these two pics of my pooch. Thanks in advance!

I like the low perspective & how close you are, but it seems a bit dark (on my uncalibrated lcd).

I have a hard time getting getting a decent shot of my black lab where he doesn't fade into the shadows, so I don't know what the solution is..And I wish I knew how to keep him from licking the lens when I am that close :)

I agree.

Part of the problem is that the dog fades into the hallway. I'd turn on a light in the hall (not the one directly above in the pic, but something out of view) -- that should lighten up the background and help delineate the dog.

A little fill flash from in front would also help define the face and make the eyes sparkle -- just don't overpower the "natural" lighting.

(Also, exposure on the face in the first looks better than in the second.)
