anyone here use the tamrac velocity series bags? curious to know if anyone here has had much experience with them. i just got a free velocity 9x from tamrac as part of a rewards program for selling their gear at the camera store i work for. havent gotten a chance to use it yet, but curious to know if anybody does since its such a unique design.

I have two Velocity bags, the 7X and 9X. I got the 7X used first. Very handy and comfortable. I got the larger bag when I bought a 70-200 f2.8 so I could carry it in the bag with the lens hood attached. Well made and fairly priced.

i tried putting my 5d and 24-70 with the hood attached in the bag and the hood kept getting snagged on a piece of velcro. maybe i ust need to rearrange it again.

I'm getting the 8 if B&H every freakin' opens and stops stealing money. Took a LONG time for me to decide on a new bag and that's the one I decided on out of the Fastpack, Flipside, Kata H-14, Kata T-214, Domke F802, and other bags.
But if you don't want it... ;)

lol, i think ill keep mine. i had to sell a lot of tamrac bags to get enough points to order the velocity 9x. i suppose its kind of like saving box tops from the cereal box for months in order to finally have enough to get the secret decoder ring. i think i need to just find the right layout for the bag and im sure i will love it.

Care to post a review? I haven't gotten the 8 yet so I want to make sure I'm good with my decision. Someone said the 9 is not needed for camera and 70-200.

I love the Velocity series. I have been using the 8X for a year and a half. It holds my 40D with 70-300 IS attached along with my 430 flash and other smaller lens combinations.
When I got my 100-400 L IS I needed to get the 9X.
I used the 9X for the Phillies playoffs and World Series Games.
As some may recall, after Game 5, Part 1 of the World Series, while walking back to my car, I was soaked but my camera equipment was
dry.

I just gave away my old Velocity 9 last year to a friend. I have the old Velocity 6 for just the camera and one lens attached and then I bought the new 9X last year to replace the old one, but I hated the zipper being only one way to get to the gear. It is very comfy, and I liked the size and capacity, but I'm very picky. Why they couldn't put two way zippers on it saddens me. I used it until I got the Domke 802 and it's wonderful, my most used bag for events. But the Velocity sling bag is what I used for city use. Now I have the Kata 214, which is torso and sling type bag, very nice.
If you got it as a reward, use it! It is a good bag, fits a lot of gear and you can take the camera out without taking it off. That's why I like it.

The 40D/50D accessory kit I got came with a battery grip, an extra battery, and a Canon-branded Velocity 5x. I was able to hold my 50D (gripped, albeit very tight), rocket blower, and either the 580EX II or 70-200 F/4 IS (but not both). I like that it's small and easy to move around in, and it's nice that the lid opens away from you, so if you have it over your shoulder nobody can open your bag without you knowing. I could do without the waist belt thing, but overall a pretty good bag.
I got a Lowepro Stealth Reporter D300 AW for when I need to carry everything with me, but I'll always have the 5x for those times when I can leave something at home.

Which do you like better and why. Those were my final choices and I chose the Tamrac because of pocket space and organization. I like to carry flashlights and what not since this will be my adventuring pack. The Kata didn't seem to have a lot of extra room.
