Recently bought Powershot s1 at very good price from disreputable dealer, who enticed me into buying generic telephoto and wide-angle converters at a BOGO price.
The salesman told me they would fit the S1 and included an adaptor.
Camera came and I am very pleased with it - converters are another story.
When I use them at maximum zoom, I usually get a "clunk" noise, occasionally followed by an E18 message. (I think this means the zoom is hitting the converter?)
I next purchased a proper Canon teleconverter, which seems to work fine.
Am still getting the "clunk" with the wideangle off-brand converter.
When I look at various sites, I see the Canon adapter for these converters is a two-piece product, involving a hood as well as an adapter.
The adapter I got from the disreputable shop is a one-piece tube, labeled "for Canon S1".
So, my question is - should I just go ahead and buy the wide-angle converter from Canon (after saving many more pennies), or will I be able to use the off-brand converter if I spring for the official Canon adaptor/hood set?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
