Just wondering what would be the ideal lens required for taking pics of snow using eos 20d.
Also, what is the difference between 100 mm to 400 mm.does it mean that one can capture the object faster or sharper at 400mm.im just new and hoping some examples with different lens usage could help.i saw some other postings with the pics and diff lens that took the pictures.thankx for ure help.

pictures of snow?
I'd imagine any lens will do with that description...what did you have in mind.

i guess yur right sorry lol...what i was thinking was i live in a forest area and when it snows i would like to capture the snowy setting and while the snow falls like to capture it without the blurring of the snow falling in the pic.
i guess in the end it would be more like a fast shutter speed to capture the snow fall.
hope this helps.

i`m sure the kit lens if you have it would be fine for capturing a good snow scene, and you dont really need a very fast shutter speed to capture the flakes without any blur

Ok, well you'r probably more interested then a wider lens for that. This isnt to say one shouldnt own a telephoto too, nor is it to say that you cant take landscapes with a telephoto. Infact a few months ago i saw a gallery with some stunning landscapes that were all taken with a 300mm lens.
As for your question about 100mm vs 400mm, check this out. It should give you a really good idea what all those numbers mean.

With snow, I have used the kit lens on many occasions with success. You just need to set your WB properly, or as I do it, leave it on auto, and then comensate your exposure by +1 to +1.5 stops. This gets the snow white rather then a light grey. Just watch your review/histogram and adjust accordingly. It tooke me some practice at the beginning of winter, but I have gotten pretty good at it now...:D
