We decided to take a drive over to Ile Bizard this morning to see if there were any Great Grey Owls still around. We figured that they had all left for their homes in Northern Ontario but drove over anyway. Surprise! We found two that had decided to stay a little longer.
Sheldon was so excited, he started setting up in the middle of the road.

We even found the Shiny Spot Nikon Guy firing away....(notice the tripod ring. Must be a Nikon thing:))

We think that this is Suzie as the Owls are very territorial and this Owl is always in the same area.

This is the second owl we found. Don't know her name:)

She didn't feel like hanging around to have her picture taken and flew off into the back fields.

I'm going to try and get back out a couple of times this week and see if they are still around. I'll be sad when they leave.

Beautiful shots of the Owls Ian.. "Suzy" is stunning with such a lovely blue sky background :)

I'm a little concerned though with what Sheldon is doing in the first image,. just what do you mean by "excited"? This is a family site after all,.

Is that a magical golden glow on the top of the King Cobra (or whatever camera mount that is) in picture one :)

My guess is it's lined up with a yellow road sign in the distance...great effect though....

IanD,
I have been really impressed with your Owl Photos and ROFLMAO with your other posts.
I am curious though.....how do you tell the male owls from the females? (Loaded question)

Suzie is beautiful whether it's male or female.

Googling some Great Grey Owl sites, because you have my curiousity going, your photos are outstanding ,and I think these sites need to update their photos with yours.

As for the other guy throwing some unwanted glare, the back of that black jacket is just screaming out for (Added Text).

Your friend couldn't wait to get out of the car.....traffic cones with POTN logo perhaps...and this is not an abbreviation for Poutine.

We have a winner! I went back and looked at the original and sure enough there is a big ol' yellow road sign there. Never saw it in the viewfinder.:)

My technique for telling if an owl is male or female is a little unscientific, but seems to work. If they wink at me, they are female. So far all I've found are females:):):):):):)
POTN traffic cones. Hell of an idea. Maybe we could sell them here on the forum. Hey Phil and Sheldon, how big a box we need to ship traffic cones??:):):confused::p:p

Great shots, Ian. Looks like you guys had a very gorgeous day for shooting the owls.

As for the Nikon guy following you guys around, he must figured anybody who has a load of top-notch Canon equipment must know what they're doing, so he decided to hang around the winners to pick up a pointer or two.
