I am playing with my new camera and close ups of objects. The lighting is just from a sliding glass door 15' away on a not so sunny Washington day. The first image is unmodified besides a resizing. The second is just some contrast and color balancing. Let me know what you think please. :)

Congrats on the new purchase!
Where is the flower?
Interesting..... thought you had while taking this picture, I would of thought of something else to photograph but I'd say well done. The edited version shows the colors of the leaves better.
When I first got my lens, I took silly pics like this: (boring but still interesting to some degree lol, with limited things around you to really photograph)

Those are flower pedals that fell off of some flowers I bought my wife, they look kind of like leaves though in a way. They were just laying on the counter top after I removed the vase and so I wanted to try some shots of them, this one I thought turned out the best.
I like the hay bail, that 50 f.18 at 1.8 looks to be a really great piece of glass, the DOF on it is really shallow though! Pieces of hay sticking up on the sides are already out of focus, I like the effect a lot. I have a weird taste of art but its my kind of art. :)

What lens are you shooting with? What are you planning to get???
My next purchase I think will be the 55-250mm! Can't wait to zoom in on some crazy things.

Just the kit 18-55 IS, I am thinking of getting the 30 f1.4 but that is a ways away. I want to shoot in doors with as little flash as possible type options so I am thinking that will be a good one, its generally easier to get close to something that further away. That 55-250 is a nice lens. I have a friend with one and he loves it, he tells a lot of funny stories about pictures he has taken with it.

Well do share a funny story :D
I suppose you guys in the US get all the lenses for cheaper huh...

I don;t know about cheaper. He paid something like 1200+$US for it. He has money is more the issue than anything else, I could never afford it. Mostly because my wife would not let me spend that much money ever again but ya. It would be nice. :)
One of his funny stories is this.
"I was in a bar in anchorage alaska talking with a friend of mine about some pictures of people who played and won in dart contest that they hold there every year. We had some discussion on the names and did not believe me that I could tell him all of them with just a few clicks of the camera. He said prove it by telling me what the name of guy in the first pictures name is. I pulled out my canon with the 55-250 attached and took a picture of one of the pictures on the wall and told him; "Well HER name is Alice and she won on 14 games in a row"".
Its funnier when told in person but just shows an odd use of a good lens. According to him they were about 35' away and the text is not much bigger than 16point on a computer screen. It was taken hand held full zoom in a dark bar and no flash, pretty impressive.

I don't think I'd be using that lens in a bar (LOL) but that's a funny story! That's pretty good, from that far away and no flash etc to be able to read lettering.
Can't wait to start shooting with it, and I didn't think it was THAT expensive. Around $350 canadian.
Also in the market for a new tripod since I just broke a very important piece on mine (plastic clip that holds camera, too chicken to try and glue), but damn..... all so expensiveeeee!!

I wanted it to be a little dark but ya it turned out darker than planned. I think it turned out better after the post process, I got the shadows a lot darker and thought it looked neat with the light coming threw the petals. Want to give it a shot? I would like to see what somebody else can make of it.
