I know this picture went horribly wrong, but just wondering if you think there is any hope for it? I don't know what to do with it... I don't have any fancy editing programs or anything.
This picture was taken on an EXTREMELY windy hill..... I was scared of losing my camera here so that's probably why it didn't really work out :(
Thanks for any help!!

i dont think anything can be done. most importantly, it captured a nice memory. and if it reminds you of that moment, then its priceless!

Not too much that can be done with jpegs but gave it a quick go just to see. Jpeg artifacts are a killer.

This is about the best I can do with the second picture, the first though there is not much I can do about camera shake.

Concerning the first photo, I can't see how using JPEG has anything to do with a picture being so OOF, or how it prevents you from fixing a basically unfix-able image.
The second is a good snapshot, keeper of memories.

While you wont be able to get it tack sharp the artifacts produced by JPEG compression further limit the amount of sharpening that can be done as the more you sharpen it the more pronounced the blocking of the JPEG compression becomes more pronounced. A RAW file will better take heavy sharpening as you don't have the blocking.

Wow thanks everyone for the edits!!!!!! :) Yes, definitely a great memory from my birthday.
Thanks again. I knew that not much could be done with them but all of the edits look better then the original's!!!

Also, I'll keep in mind that RAW files are better for touch-ups. But first, I have to learn much more about this.

F4Cyborg I really like your 2 pics in one! That's pretty much what I wanted to accomplish, since the second pic we were the only ones in focus, but there was no neat background. Awesome :)

I just used GIMP editor for mine on my laptop, its a free image editor that is pretty powerful.

If I were you, I would be wondering why my camera chose to focus on objects on the side of the scene. Your Rebel should have grabbed the focus. Did you have selective focus set for one of the side sensors? Had autofocus turned off on the lens?
If we don't learn from our flubbed shots, then we end up repeating the mistakes. We've all had them.

Just changed the whole image to an "artsy" style - instead of trying to "fix" it.

Definitely!
I'm not sure about the focus, it was such a rushed picture. It was extremely windy at that ski hill and didn't take much time looking to see where it was focusing, just thought after taking a few shots one of them would turn out decent. Oh well.
Autofocus was definitely on but I think my camera was not sure what to focus on, especially since it was so dark and windy!

That looks cool! Thanks :) I'll save that, hehe.
Amazing what you can do with just one picture huh... I'll really have to start playing with editing programs myself soon.

Nice job. It shows that you can get a lot of character in an image even though it's not pin sharp.
