When I started to download a days work from a Microdrive, I found that the RAW files were gone! What I found instead were a lot of folders with garbage names. One time during the shoot I got an "Err 02" (CF error). I recovered by power cycling the D60 (V1.0.4 firmware). Questions :
1. Anyone have this happen?
2. Any idea why it happens?
3. Anything I could have done to recover my files?

Man I feel for you. I had a similar problem happen to me back in May of 2002. I was on vacation and lost a whole days shots. Almost a month later the Microdrive went dead but thankfully I didn't loose any shots that time.
I have heard there is software out that will help recover damaged MicroDrives and memory cards. Hope they help you. Let us know how you make out.
By the way. My Microdrive was replaced under warranty, but I don't use it very often anylonger since I got 2 512 mg compact flash cards. They haven't given me a bit of trouble after after taking over 9000 photos on them.
My microdrive is looking for a new home.
Happy Holidays

Joe -
May not have anything to do with it, but it appears the Microdrive does much better if you never write to it with the PC. What I am doing now is filling the Microdrive, downloading the images via a PCMCIA adapter on the PC, then putting the drive back into the camera, then reformatting it (much faster than "erase all"). Perhaps the key is not writing to the drive with the PC, or always reformatting it after each use. What ever the reason it hasn't failed since (knock on wood).

THE HELL WITH MICRODRIVES!!!!!!!!! I have had 2 - 1 gig drives crash on me. the first one was due to using it outside in the cold and bring it in ot the warmth too fast and it locked up . That one had 2 jobs on it cost $1300 to retrieve them off of it . The second one was crashed by a piece of crap card reader. luckly didn;t have but jsut a few shots I needed on it and cusomter understood . I will not use them . I suggest only using them if you put them in the camera and never remove it and then also download from the camera . WIth all the different type of card readers avaliable there is no standards so some that say they will beable to read the micro drives will not and will crash them. This info about readers came from a recorvery company.
