Hi, I want to upgrade to a DSLR, I was wondering if anyone could recommend some cheap ones, I am looking at the Canon D30 right now but want to hear some people’s opinions on which ones are some pretty good beginner cheap ones... Thanks

The D30's pretty old now, you'd better off looking at a Rebel XT/350D. It's a much better camera.

Or if you want to go on the cheap, 300D's (Digital Rebels) are coming way down in price.

Both the D30 and the DRebel (300D) are capable cameras that are nowadays available at prices comparable to that of good P+S digicams.
While the D30 is older and only has 3 Megapixels (that it makes a lot from), the 300D is a near-state-of-the art 6 MP camera that was the latest and greatest a year ago (together with the similar, but more flexible and more expensive 10D). Most likely, it will offer you the best bargain at the moment if you are looking for a capable DSLR.
The newer DRebel XT (350D) is also a great little camera and offers some advantages over the 300D: 2 MP more, better low light performance, immediate startup, no crippled functions. However, it's also a bit more expensive.
Best regards,
Andy

If you're looking at the D30 which I think you can find nowadays for $350ish, you could also consider the D60 which is the 6.3mp version which is slightly better. I understand where you're coming from. I purchased a D60 with your same intentions and probably won't upgrade body anytime soon. Whatever you pick, buy some good glass for it.
