A little question for all you remote users out there:
I'm browsing the market for a wireless remote system for my EOS 400D, since it's acutally just for exploring the remote stuff a bit I'm not quite willing to spend vast amounts of money on it, so stuff like the pocket wizard is way out of budget. ;-)
After having looked around a bit on the internet for my needs I was able to narrow the choice down to 2 models.
1: the Canon RC-1
2: A substitue remote for canon I found on procameragear.com ( http://www.procameragear.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/46_48/products_id/424 )
I am able to find review on the web on the RC-1 but I'm not quite able to find reviews on the PCG one...
Does anybody have any experience with the PCG remote?
I'm considering of getting that one since it has the bulb functionality the RC-1 lacks but I'm not quite sure of the quality...
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Miguel.

When considering this, remember the Canon remote works by line of site, and the remote will have to be in front of the camera to trigger the shutter. I have the Canon remote, and I also have not been impressed with the range. There have been times during a family shoot when I could not fire the shutter because I was out of range.
If that remote from procameragear works as advertised, I would choose it over the Canon remote. Better range, and doesnt need line of site. Downside is that its bulkier, and will take up more room in your bag.

The RC-1 was not really designed for "real" wireless work. It was designed so that you can trigger the camera to take a picture of a group with you in it. It's not practical for anything else other than that. So, if the choice is between the RC-1 and PCG remote, then it's the latter you probably want.

I have the PCG one and it works so well and its RF, I see no reason why to bother with the Canon IR one.

There's another thread talking about remote shutter releases http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=631901. Or you can try ebay and look for Phottix. I plan on picking one up.

Didn't know the RC-1 ONLY works from the front when I bought it, BIG disapointment, just ordered the Remote from ProCameraGear.....

Anyone else own the ProCameraGear remote?
I'm also looking for a remote and that one seems pretty good, especially the fact that you can press halfway to focus, and fully press to shoot. I think that would be pretty helpful for self portraits. the Canon one doesnt do that, does it?
are there other remotes that can do that (half press to focus) that work with the 400D/XTI?

Yup, the one I mentioned above by Phottix and the ones from Gadget Infinity (I have both now :D)
Here's 2 vids of the Phottix

The Phottix ones are better built than the Gadget Infinity ones in my opinion.

In the end I decided to get the PCG one.
I'm very pleased with the quality, all functions mentioned on the website handle very well in usage.
The only thing I'm looking to solve is for an easy way to attach the receiver to the camera. Apart from the cable there's nothing else to attach it with...

I ordered 2 of the procamera ones for a 20D and 50D. They both work great.
