I'm just getting to know my new 10 stop filter, so tried this out at 90 sec and converted to mono.

Very nice indeed. Great light on the rocks, and a good feel to the whole image. May I ask what the filter was?

The filter is B&W screw in nd110.
5D mkII 17-40L.
It didnt look so interesting in colour due to the rather plain sky, hence the mono conversion.
Thank for comments.

Great shot love the tones in it. Can you tell me how you took the shot? All I seem to get is black (@ 90 sec)and have gone up to 400sec @f22 for some shots.
I just focus the shot and then put the camera in Bulb on f22 place on filter and shoot?
Thanks in advance

Compose and focus, then the lens has to be switched to manual focus (if not already).
Then put the filter on, go into bulb and shoot. It doesnt have to be f22.

You could also try this with 2 x polarising filters (non-circular). Stack them, turn the front one until the viewfinder goes nearly black. How's that for ND?
BTW - love the shot!

Thanks will give that a go. Lens is in MF most of the time as i tend to use Live View on the 40D.

Marie, do you focus at hyperfocal distance or 1/3 into the scene or what? You're always spot on?

Great image! The long exposures of moving water can look very nice. Good job.
