Hi There,
I had made a DIY home made softbox with a 25w CFL. That is a very low powered light. so I am not really getting what I want all of it. I can do headshot portraits with it, Some macros, but when I tried using it for Smoke shots. It did not help at all.

Anything comes in Market which i can u se for smoke photography or any thing I can do at home to make some goo lihting setup without paying much?

I know "What you get is what you pay for" but at the moment I am learning all the things, buying a flash is not in my budget.

Well, you can add more CFLs. Just understand that you need to double the wattage to get one additional stop of light. If you used 8 CFLs you would only gain 3 stops.

Maybe browse the local camera shops or E-Bay for old flash units. You want something with adjustable manual mode. Lots of old flash units around for not much money.

Honestly, the best way to do portraits with minimal gear is to use window light and a white sheet for a reflector.

Okk.. Then adding CFL is not economic I suppose. I should save some money then.

If you're trying to learn all this, whynot get some lights that will actually help and benefit you.

check out Focal M500T flash - about $20 off of eBay. Vivitar 285hv's are another option.

Also, if these are continuous lights...whynot just use a longer shutter speed?
