There is a massive thread on here ("sometimes I hate photographers") http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=627013&page=10 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=627013&page=10)which discusses the need, or not, for lots of expensive gear. I thought I'd try my 365 shot for yesterday with as little lighting as possible, just to see what I could do. Couldn't do much about the camera and lenses (Canon 50D and Sigma 105) but out went the Speedflashes, studio lights and othe 'stuff'. This blue bulb was lit with a candle for a bit of sidelight, and I shone my Catseye mountain-bike torch against a white backdrop behind the bulb to get reflected bounce. The bulb rested on a sheet of black reflective perspex.

Comments welcome.

That's a superb photo of what will soon be a museum piece in Britain!

Yes, the low-energy ones are not exactly exciting, are they. Thanks for the comment.

I like it! I have to say that sometime not having all that expensive gear makes you think about what you can do with what you have lying around.

This shot (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3128/3200236012_009109c543_o.jpg) was taken with my 400D using the 18-55mm kit lens and an iPhone to light the scene!

Thanks for that. Yes, just shows that imagination and creativity make a large part of a decent shot. I'm always amazed at how little light you sometimes need - it has to be selective, rather than quantitative.
