Second day at Croft and how different it was to Saturday. No more sunshine, overcast, misty and very cold. Ian_H and myself had a good hike around the lesser used (by photogs that is) parts of the circuit, in and out of pine tree copses, over muddy ground and generally a long hike to find new shooting spots.
Anyway, down to business. Here are a few shots from today. Either with the 1D MK-I and 100-400L or 1D MK-II and 300 2.8IS.

And what you have all been waiting for. I can assure you Simon is not 2ft 6in tall, he is in fact kneeling down to take low angle shots as all good motosport photogs do. Thanks for the permission Simon, you are a number one sport:

Wonderful as always............Thanks for the chair photo.
Does the helmet or head produce more glare?

As Ken has said we explored some of the lesser used photo points at the circuit yesterday and yes the light was pretty bad, I was using my 100-400 most of the day with the 1.4 convertor and it struggled most of the day, anyway here's 3 from me

Some more great shots Kenny - was disappointed I couldn't make it back on Sunday.
I'm not sure by my expression if I happy or not with what I'm looking at - nice to be able to check the histograms though to make sure you've got the settings right for the conditions. I'll bring some powder for the top of my head next time to cut the glare down for you! Either that or a hat - I have one sunburnt bounce at the moment. Must get something to kneel on - the tarmac at Croft isn't half hard on the knees after a while.
Cheers,
Simon.

Sorry to have not been around on Sunday. Some great shots, particularly the Ducati.

You need a stetson like mine. Keeps the sun off for sure, and makes you very conspicuous. Not recommended if you use the on-board flash of the 20D in auto mode though.
Oulton Park this weekend for some real circuit racing and am I looking forward to it..... I'll be there before the press office opens. Harewood on Sunday, just because it is easy for me, and then another 35 events to follow over the year.
Oh, and here is the other accident:

CDS, a fellow photog (or is that fellowess?) of the female gender will be with me at my first big circuit shoot this year. She has threatened me with capturing me on her MK-II, complete with my stetson and 'large equipment' (her words, not mine). To keep the peace I have promised to post the shot as long as I can post one of her, so watch this space next week.

Ian, in your sidecar photo the monkey appears to be looking right into your lens and saying; Artie, look at that guy pointing a Cannon at us!" (Pun intended). Great work.

I've been looking for a thread like this on the net for sometime. I would like to introduce myself. I'm Jeff M from Toronto, many know me as a pretty good street rider and webmaster of www.ROADRIPPING.COM (http://www.roadripping.com/) I would be honored to have you guys view my site and contribute some photos to our gallery.
Now here is the important part, I'm amateur and I really mean amateur photographer. http://www.roadripping.com/html/modules/photo/index.php here is my gallery. Unfortunately it's winter in T.O so I'm just shooting anything with my 20d. The plan is to start doing some sportbike photography this summer, and I need your guys help.
I'm not rich and I'm deciding between the 70-200 2.8 L or the 100-400 L is ... for a first lens, I can't afford both. If you could recommend what I should do that would be great. Our one main track shannonville is small and I can get close. Mosport is large and I might need the reach. I'll be doing most of my work at shannoville though. At the same time I know I may be shooting some weddings etc so I know the 2.8 might be the all around lens then use that with the 1.4 extender. Please let me know if I'm in the right train of thought.

P.S ian.... that blue R1 shot is amazing..
Ken ... the R6 is super ....
Could you please hint me some of your setting... ie F8 1/800 and lens ... thanks guys

nice shots guys.
hopefully i will have some to contribute as the summer arrives here.
i too am debating the same lenses.
i am leaning more towards the reach of the 1-400 though.
but i think the 2.8 would be beneficial as well.
darn decisions.
now where did i see that money tree at?
would make the decision much much easier.
Monty fills up BH cart with 1 of each and well heck may as well get a 1D body to go with it all. oh heck make it a matching pair.
:D
OK Monty back to reality now

Ian thanks for giving me the tips ... appreciate it. I'm impressed with both images 200 and 400 lens. which lens all around do you think would do me better at the track.
Those are also pretty slow shutter speeds... are you panning with that..
and where do I find metering on my 20d thanks man
