I've recently upgraded from a Powershot G2 to the new EOS350D. I take a lot of close up pictures using the Macro mode.
On the G2 it was possible to turn off the Flash when in Macro mode - each setting has its own button on the camera body. This was helpful because often the strength of the flash would completely spoil the picture.
On the EOS350D it appears that it is not possible to turn off the flash when the camera in is Macro mode, as both settings are located on the Mode dial. What this means is that, if you don't want the flash to fire when shooting in Macro mode, you must ensure that you are in very good light. This is because the flash defaults to Auto in that mode.
Have I got this right, or missed a trick somewhere? It seems strange that the G2 would have better functionality that the EOS350D.

As far as I know the "macro mode" isn't really different from the P setting for instance.

Just set the aperature to something like F8 or F11 around there and take a picture.

Macro mode isn't special. It just sets shooting mode to single shot and picks an aperature high enough so there's a good depth of field. So just pick P mode, pick 100 ISO so it's as clean as possible, pick around F7.1 or F8 and you're set. The flash won't pop up unless you press the flash button.

No problem! See if it works out for ya.

Oh and I forgot......

You might want to put the camera on Av mode instead of P. Heh, then you'll be able to change the aperature better. Sorry, forgot about that. :p
