Today I took a series of pictures from the same position on a tripod. They all showed the similar rainbow-coloured and striped artifact in the upper right corner. I've never seen anything like this before. Obviously it has to be the sun that shines too directly into the lens, but what about the striped character of the artifact? Anyone seen this before or knows why and how it occurs?
I'm using a Canon A75, set to 'Neutral' picture colour, using program 'P'.

Yes, I was guessing at something with the digital processing in the camera and not primarily the lenses. But doesn't the sharpening algorithms work with each pixel and the surrounding pixels both horizontally and vertically? The artifact, striped with alternating light and dark vertical lines, I feel suggest at some kind of other process.
Anyone seen anything similar to this before on any camera at all? :-)
Cheers, Zeke
