Ok all the time is here. We have quickly taken our challenge photos, and it is now time to get started in the rest of the process.

As a reminder each member of the team may post 1 picture that must include the subject (a single flower). If more than one flower is in the submitted photo it will be disqualified for the competition.

As the submissions are posted I will collect the links and organize them in this post so that each teams photos will be together. Please also include the EXIF data in your post. I will edit this post with more details if needed, but for now lets just see your submissions!

NO LONGER ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS

The Judging has started and we will be updating once the judges begin to narrow down the field.

I really had no idea where I was going to find a good flower shot since I'm staying in a hotel in Netherlands. Yesterday, a collegue and myself drove along the Rhine River photographing castles. Only one was open for touring the inside and when I tried to sneek off the tour to get a shot of the only flowers I saw, but got yelled at in German by the tour guide. Later in the day, we found another castle that was closing, but I asked the guy for just 5 minutes to look around and found this rose above the castle walls below the tower over looking the river.

What got me thinking is how forests will become even more filled with life after a fire than it was before the fire, which proves that in order to improve things, it's sometimes necessary for things to get worse.

The Submission thread is now the judging thread. NO MORE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THIS TIME

Judges feel free to begin your process of narrowing down images. If you would first narrow down best on each team. I will update the thread accordingly and then you can begin to figure out a winner.

Also once you have the top photo from each if you would PM me with each one and leave that kind of discussion out of the thread for suspense purposes.

XTXSers

hotrod100 -- nice fluorescent flower. would like to see just a little more DOF
AxxisPhoto - nice composition and I like the perspective
ssracer -- this is pretty much to blown out for me
tkbslc -- nice composition, like the DOF and background, a little hot in places
riverguide - nice dof, lighting and background
jastangl - nice compostion, it's a dreary looking rose but its fitting with the dreary atmosphere
mullhawk - interesting composition and lighting

My pick AxxisPhoto

The fantastic XTi

azneric3 - nice lighting and composition and colors
bhardwaj.deepak - lighting is kind of harsh, but comp is nice
justAL - like the lighting, dof
kiwichris - lovely colors, nice detail an dof, I'm not a big fan of mug shots but this is nice
drummerhc - good job with the flash here

My pick Kiwichris

The amazing XSi

DonJuanMair - like the take on the subject, nice control with the lights and color
Goincarcrazy - interesting take on it, flower could use a little more dof
FalconN - I like this alot, very creative, nice comp and the dof works here
endlessdream - nice take on it -- I like it but the blur is just too much for me
rdguy - nice colors, comp and lighting -- a little more dof would be nice
ckort - like the color, lighting and the drops are a nice touch
HSK - great composition, love the background and perspective on this -- it makes the flower look tall and grand

My pick HSK

Really awesome job everybody -- tough to pick winners out of this crowd.

(walking in to the theme of Rocky Balboa... Wearing a robe that says judge on the back)
The time has finally come to show the world who is the best! The judging will be tough, rigorous, and painful... But in the end of all the chaos, only one will come out on top... So without hesitation... Let the judging begin!!! (Fireworks shoot of the ground like shooting stars, along with other arrays of pyrotechnics set off, like disco inferno! The large amounts of fans, shouting and clapping, ready for this event to finally happen!)

Ok!

Team One:
hotrod100 -- Lovely colors, but it feels a tad hot to me?
AxxisPhoto - composition feels tight, like the angle though
ssracer --sorry, this is really blown:(
tkbslc -pretty rose, and like the Rules of THirds used for this
riverguide - muted colors nicely done
jastangl - I just can't feel the rose belongs in this photo.but its interesting
mullhawk; concept is great.maybe a little too centered?

My Choice; tkbslc

TeamTwo
azneric3 -The headless lady feels strange.
bhardwaj.deepak -rose is OOF, but the angle is great
justAL - Centered, would love to have seen a different BG with this one
kiwichris - having the flower fill the frame works with this one very well.
drummerhc -Wish there had been a tighter crop? My eyes go to the buildings in the BG>

My Choice. kiwichris

Team Three
DonJuanMair -This photo looks familiar.have I seen it before? ? Clever use of lights.
Goincarcrazy - This time I think the props took over the subject.
FalconN - Really great use of perspective and creativity
endlesssdream; sorry, but agree about the blur.just too shaky, but that BG is a killer.
rdguy -Very nice blue, but that hot pink does detract somewhat..nicely off centered.
ckort -I strive to get a nice sharp flower such as this without blowing the colors. This fills the frame, and although the drops may be cliche, I llike them here.
hsk' I wish the flower had been on the opposite side of this photo.it feel s pushed against the frame? Nice angle though, does give the flower some largess.

My Choice: ckort

TOugh competition for a small window of time folks.well done;)

:oops:I am sorry for taking a long time, it was just me and my daughter today and she is fussy... Also I had to get a hair cut, mail off the BG-E5 battery grip with extra Canon LP-E5 battery, and renew my ID... Now I have to work at 3:30pm until 7:30pm... It's kinda ironic that this all happened right when I am needed for a contest... Sorry again and I promise to get all the judging done as soon as I get free.... SORRY!!!!

I believe we are waiting on pendulum15 and yokotas13 input. Swingbopper needs to finalize his last choice as well.

We have a winner!!

I want to thank all the judges for doing a great job, and a special note of thanks to Rebel450_Addict for settling a couple of tie situations in what was a very close competition. The fact that we all were picking different photos speaks volumes to the quality of photos that were entered -- You all did a bang up job and thanks for your patience.

Wow, I'm a lil' bit shocked and surprised. Shocked because I don't think I've ever won a challenge lol, and surprised I won because I think everyone entered some great efforts, a lot of decent pictures, some were especially good, and very creative aswell. It was very interesting to see what everyone came up with.

Thank you everyone for looking, judging and taking part! :D

Congrats to HSK and the other two finalists. I think everyone did a great job in this competition. I for one walked away a better photographer and flattered to get the 2 votes I got. It's motivating to know that someone out there enjoyed your work. Thanks to FalconN and all the judges for making this work. Now, whats the next challenge!

Congrats HSK this was quite a good competition. Looking forward to the next one. Although if I am going to try and keep up with the next one I may have to adjust the times it was too much staying up till 2am my time then getting up for 8am classes haha

I had a great time though and I was pretty happy with my results. I love the creativity that the competition brought out!

I suggest we should try something more challenging! Child portrait's!!!! Anyone wanna play? I will post on the correct thread....

Goincarcrazy
23rd of January 2009 (Fri), 01:16
Kinda helps when you have a child...which I don't, nor do I really have access to one. The only thing I could submit is something that I did for a family a while back, but that wouldn't fit within the "must be a current" shot sort of deal.

I'm late on reading the winner. Congrats HSK a truly stunning shot, I knew it was going to be one of the finalists the first time I saw it. I'd love to hang it on my wall ^^. Hopefully I'll be up for entering the next competition and take a shot at doing something new with my newbie skills.

I tend to agree with Goincarcraszy. I don't have access to kids in the human sense of the work. My kids are my dogs.
