So I’ve been annoyed that sony vegas and most other apps on my PC can’t play the full HD .mov files smooth. I was so excited about not having to transcode any files from shooting to editing. I have settled to transcode. Here are my settings to edit smooth video in Sony Vegas 8 posted on my blog. Hope this helps anyone out there. I guess PC doesn’t like handling the h.264 codec very well.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to give this a try cause trying to edit a jumpy video is a huge PITA.

It's usually a hardware issue for HD in most cases. HD requires HUGE amounts of processing power/internal bandwidth.

I remember sony or someone tied in with vegas doing a writeup of the comparison between video formats a while ago.

do macs support native h.264 editing? they don't support avchd.

you'll probably have to transcode.

I've been trying Pinnacle out 12 and it needs the MOVs converted first before working with them unless i'm doing something wrong.....
