Actually just got mine today. I worked with it at various F stops and focal lengths to make sure it was up to snuff. Indeed it is an amazing lens. It has the sharpness of the 28-70 2.8L but actually I feel it is superior at F2.8 and also of course offers you the much needed extra 4mm right where you need it, especially with a D60. I'm using a 1D and it is actually going to be wide enough to allow me to keep it on most of the time.

I had a chance to shoot this lens last week and altough I didn't have the lens long enough to run a thorough test, I managed to compare it to my 28-70L at 2.8 and 5.6 on a new EOS 1DS. The lens is absolutely as sharp as my 28-70 and I concur that it seems a bit sharper at 28mm f2.8 (I couldn't see any difference at the other focal lengths).
I would say it is at least on par with the 28-70 and could have a slight edge when wide open.
The 1DS is an unbelievable camera....... The detail it captures is unsurpassed by anything I have seen yet and I've decided that I had better sell some gear off and start saving for one of my own.

I just bought the new EF 24-70 f/2.8 L and attached it to a new EOS 1DS. What can I tell you ?? As a contax ND ex user and being used to great zeiss glass, I can only tell you that the quality of L glass is superb, and in my view equal or superior than Zeiss.
I have tried it at every aperture for over 10 days and I have to say that it is extremely sharp!!!!! Light and color are also right on track. Plus , the camera is amazing.
I have not tried non L glass, but budget permitting, will keep buying only L glass.

I just got mine in today.
I'll be shooting the Texas Tech Basketball game that's on ESPN tonight, so I should have a good chance to break it in.
It's my replacement for a 28-200 3.4-5.6 Tamron.
I will post what I think about it later.

Ok.
I used mine at the game last night, and it's a great lens. The response time / speed is amazing.
The only complaint is that the zoom ring is a little tight right now, but I'm sure with some use that will loosen up.
