Decided today to give a shot shooting my daughter Abby. We had a crappy day so i decided to give it a shot and try my hand at converting to Black and White.
Please share your thoughts.

Sue thing, Really its pretty simple.
Exif data is attached to the images, Shot using my 1D mark3 with a 100mm Macro lens
Lighting was a single AB800 with Large Softbox attached also provided by AB. Light is sitting about 4 feet over her and pointed down on a 45 degree angle.

First two seem way overexposed or just bright in general. 3 and 4 are gold!

She is just so pretty. I usually like more contrast in black and white conversions, but what you have done works well with these particular shots IMHO.

I agree which is what makes this forum so good, Different people with different ways of doing things :D
Here is another sample - Went a little more harsh with the contrast's.

I'm liking the color version too - mainly because of those eyes. Have you thought about using one of those black and white with selective coloring only for the eyes?
(And how did she do with getting her ears pierced? I'm expecting a girl, and thats one thing my wife and I have discussed, but not decided on yet).
Thanks.

Yea there was no discussion with my wife on the ears... she said it was to happen... so it happened :D
Honesty Abby freaked right out after the first one, which made the second one harder for the girl but she screamed and cried like crazy.. We took her home and gave her a bottle and she had a nap and woke up like nothing happened.

I think the first too look too bright in B&W but are OK in color. The eyes and the horse kind of 'hold' the image even though the skin tones are becoming too white.
Nice pictures though.

First of all, what a beautiful baby!
As far as constructive critique goes, I really like the last two (BW) images. It would be hard for me to pick a favorite between those two. If I had to, I would probably go with the last one where she is looking straight into the camera.
I thought the first two images were too "busy" wih the riding horse in the background. It was a distraction for me. Also, the first image seemed a bit "soft" in the eyes. Maybe it is just my monitor (or I need new glasses)! In any event, when looking at baby pictures I like to see the eyes nice and sharp.

Man, I think I'd have a hard time doing that. But like you said, if the wife says it's going to happen, then I don't have much choice. Maybe she can just take her when I'm at work. Thanks for the reply - I'll have to have my wife read this.
