I know this subject has been discussed so many times before, but I just want some help making up my mind. I'm looking at both the Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 EX DG and the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 XR Di LD. Just like most others, I would love to get the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L, but it's just too far out of my budget right now. I'm pretty sure that either the Sigma or the Tamron will do just fine, as I'm not a pro-photog. Of course I'm interested in the quality of the photos that can be taken with these lenses, but I'm more interested to know which is most like the Canon in feel and operation. In your experience/opinion, which one focuses fast? How about zoom ring, does it turn the same as Canon or in the opposite direction? What about build quality? Thanks for all of your help... I'm sure that I'll be happy with whichever one I choose.

I have the Tamron and am very pleased with it's performance. I read a comparison of the two and the Tamron really came out on top, which is why I went that direction.

I can't speak for the Canon or the Sigma, but the Tamron is awesome.
I shoot live bands, which is low-light action and also portraiture. and the focus is fast and accurate. The reverse zoom control takes a bit of getting used to, but for a saving of $1900 AUD I'm not complaining.
Here's a couple of recent samples taken using my my 20D and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8...

For the money, I would be surprised if you were disappointed.
