Sweet shots. I really like the first one. These abandoned buildings make such great subjects.

Great shots; Amazing how they just walk away from them and let nature reclaim the land. Of course in the desert that could be quite awhile.

I like the gas station. So much to shoot east of here. Any suggestions on where to begin? I just started exploring the Antelope Valley and I would love some suggestions of more specific places to start exploring?

I enjoy your work... keep them coming...

nice. it looks really desolate out there. i'd love to see that gas station in a wide angle shot or even a panorama (as long as thats the only building in the shot, im assuming everything else in the area is desert).

Again, thanks for all the comments!

Someone else from Burbank, huh? :D Keep heading farther east. Take the 14 just a little past Mojave for some great photo ops. One of my favorites is the little working ghost town of Randsburg. Johannesburg is another one just over the hill from there. Also nearby is Red Rock Canyon. And by that point you're already halfway to Death Valley, so you might as well continue on.

That is a wide angle shot. The first one was at 22mm. I didn't think of doing a panorama of it, though. I did three or four panoramas on this trip, but not here. Nevada Highway 95 runs right in front of the gas station, but there isn't anything else around there for miles. The nearest town is Beatty, 25 miles south, and that's barely a town itself. Beatty is only one square mile in size.

Nice find Lonnie, The old sign leaning against the tank makes me wonder if they had a small Diner there as well. Any time I see one of those big arrows on a sign, it makes me think it's gonna read something like "Eat at Joe's". ;)

Good thinking! There were remains of a completely collapsed building right next (south) to the gas station, which is where I found the refrigerators and an oven. I was wondering why a gas station would need an oven! The refrigerators I could understand (sodas, etc.). A diner would definitely make sense.

I was thinking it looks like that gas station they stop at in the movie Universal Soldier.

Thank you for the suggestions. I just need to pack up and go one morning very early. Any suggestions on how to tell ones fiancée that you want a day alone in the desert taking pictures of old things abandoned in the desert without becoming an old thing abandoned in the desert? :) Thanks again for the suggestions and keep the pictures coming.

lol... I don't think I can help you with that. Maybe you could just sneak out real early while she's still asleep and worry about the explanation when you get back. Like they say, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission...

They're in the "Travel" (http://www.ldphotography.net/Travel/) section of my site. Look for galleries about "Highway 49" or "California's Gold Country" or just about anything mentioning the desert, especially my annual November trips in the Mojave Desert and Death Valley. There are a bunch in the section of galleries I used to have stored on PBase also. Sometimes the Las Vegas trips include stops at a couple ghost towns I know of on the way there or home. The Arizona trips also usually involve ghost towns.

Shop the dog out, maybe. That was my favorite, but the dog is just too distracting.

Ashley is the subject of that one. Can't get rid of the subject...
