Death Valley normally receives two inches of rain or less every year. This year they got a little over six inches in about a two or three week period. Because of this, the wild flowers have sprung up all over the place in an unprecedented display.

I liked the purple ones, best.

Lonnie:
The photos are lovely.

The local paper just ran a feture article on the Death Vallye wildflowers this year. Apparently they're much more plentiful than usual because of all the rain this year. Thanks for making it possible for us to see them.

beautiful shots; I saw some film footage on the news about this. Good thing got there in time to take some photos, this might not happen again for another 100 years

Awesome...wish I was closer to see that in person. I love the ones where it looks like the ground is carpeted. Beautiful.

Thanks, everyone!

The wild flowers bloom almost every spring, but not quite like this. There was another similar bloom in 1997 or 1998 when Death Valley got 4.5" of rain for the season. That was a record at the time, but we've blown that one out of the water this year with well over 6" so far.
