Hello,

Recently i bought a 20D with a 28-135 IS USM lens. Can i have some information on the next questions please:

1) When i'm shooting a moving car and pan with my camera (along with the car) do i have to set off the IS on the lens? When does IS gives the best results in general?

2) In the near future i would like to buy a 70-300 DO IS USM lens. I hear from several users that this lens is soft. My question is simpel: is the DO lens better than the 28-135 IS USM lens that i already have? Is ther someone who have both lenses and can tell me something about those lenses and their performance?

3) When i change my CF card from my 20D and i close the lid from the card compartiment the led on the back of the camera light up for a few seconds, even when the camera switch is in the OFF position. Is this normal?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

1) Not sure if that lens has mode I and II, someone else will know.

2) There was a thread on it earlier today, saying it's a reasonably sharp lens, but the 70-200L lenses are even sharper. Of course you lose IS unless you pay big bucks for the F2.8 IS one, the F4 is great value though, by reputation.

3) Yes.

Welcome to the forum :)

1) my 28-135 IS has only IS on/off, no modes (I don't know if other versions have modes...), so best is to switch IS off when panning...

1) IS Mode II (if so equipped) is supposed to let you do that.

2) Don't get the 70-300... for about $200 more (16%) get the 100-400 L -- trust me, it's worth it. If the 70-300 were $700-$800 then I'd say go for it, but since it's not, better to get L glass :)

3) Yeah, it's normal -- it's the camera accessing the card. It's like when you close your CD-ROM drive and it lights up for a moment, even without a CD in it.

Thank you all for the help.

The lens 100-400 L is a better lens but i don't like the white color and the zoommethod.
But the greatest problem is the weight and the dimensions. I take most of the pictures i make from people and they are sceared when you aim such a big lens on them. They are intimidated.
If the 70-300 DO IS USM is better than the 28-135 IS USM that i use for now then i will buy it.
Can someone tell me if the results from the DO lens are better?

Thanks for your help.
