I am having a problem with the selection and replacement/darkening of skies using Magic Wand in Photoshop.

I have tried a variety of adjustments - Anti Alias - on/off: Contigous - on/off:Feather:Modify:Smooth:Expand but I fail to achieve a seamless join between the horizon and the sky. I find that either I have a narrow white or black band separating them.

If someone can tell me the secret of avoiding these problems so that there is no evidence of editing the sky I'll be very grateful

Select... Feather... is the answer. Play with different numbers. 2, 5, 20 - it all depends on the image and the size of the image.

Many thanks for the advice - I hadn't realised that one could use such high numbers:rolleyes:!

If it is a narrow band of white pixels try Select>Matte>Remove Matte>White (sorry if thats not quite right but I dont have CS on my work PC). Its mainly for removing stray white pixels from models taken against a white or black backgrond but it also works sometime for very light sky against a horizon.

Another option is to use Select>Grow. Thats uses the tolerance in the magic wand tool to grow the selection.
