I am not in the business, I just like to take shots of my kids. My husband bought me a 40d because I wanted a really good camera. Anyway, I bought some promaster lights (cheap) and was wondering if you could help me with a set-up. I have two of them and they are 160 watts each. One has the white umbrella, while the other one has the reflective umbrella. Do i put the main light to the left of my camera? Where exaclty do I put the fill light, behind my subject or to the side of subject? Should I use reflectors? I have been setting my camera on manual around 1/60, ISO 100, f4 that is what the camera place told me to do where I purchased the lights, but I think I use f/11. Anyway, I have a white background and was wondering if you all could help me out?

May want to take a look through this thread for some diagrams, I am sure others will chime in also:

The Dummy's Guide to Lighting:

Put the larger umbrella on the Fill.
Put the smaller diameter source on the Main light.
Put the Fill light to one side or other, adjacent to the camera.
Put the Main off to one side or other farther to the side...exactly where is 'it depends', in part it depends upon which way the subject is facing.

There are 'rules' about fullness of the face, shadows cast on the face by the light, how much or how little of the Main light should strike facial features on the far side of the face. This goes beyond Dummy's Guide to Lighting however.
