Hello everyone.
I dunno how to put this but I think auto mode on my 400D/Rebel Xti gives me better photos than Manual  I don't want to sound like a complete noob but is it possible to change the resolution and the ISO from 400 to 100 in auto mode? If not can anyone tell me how to make my photos look better in manual?
Here are 2 photos to exemplify.
In Auto:

In Manual:

As you can see the colours and the contrast in Auto are a bit better...
Thanks for your time. :)

As you can see the colours and the contrast in Auto are a bit better... Just 'cause you got something you like in Auto this time, doesn't mean that...
1. ...you'll get something you like next time, or...
2. ...someone else will like it as much as you do? Or like it at all?
That car can look pretty good in late light. is it possible to change the resolution and the ISO from 400 to 100 in auto mode? Resolution? how to make my photos look better in manual? See my Sig for the light.
For a good starting point, first set the f-stop & shutter speed you need for the effect you want. Then the other parameter: f-stop or shutter speed. Then adjust the ISO.
Need an exposure crutch? (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=89123)

Thanks frank. When I said resolution I meant that in manual the size of the photos is 3888x**** and in manual it is 2800x****
cheers

I meant that in manual the size of the photos is 3888x**** and in manual it is 2800x**** If by "Auto" you mean the green box setting, then yes, the cam will change your manual IQ setting for you because it thinks you're to xxxxxx to know the difference? ;) It doesn't do that in any of the creative modes, so you need to check to see what you set the cam to.

I set it to Auto on purpose to see the dif. between my settings and "automatic" settings...turns up my settings aren't good... lol

P setting allows you to adjust white balance and ISO, I would recomend start shooting in RAW file format, and either av or TV so you get an idea how each setting adjusts your picture. shooting in Raw will give you the ability to correct any colour casts too
Compare the exif data to see how your settings varried from your camera's brain choosing the settings, also try reading understanding exposure to see how changing the settings varies your over all picture.

From, the EXIF, it looks like the manual shot was taken with a much wider apeture, but not a much faster shutter speed. If you bumped the shutter speed to 1/1000, I don't think it would have been as overexposed.

yes but that is the problem with dark coloured cars...the car would end up underexposed

I don't think it would have been as overexposed. In FF3, it does look a bit that way, but in IE it doesn't. Still it's a blah image to me & I prefer something more dramatic with black cars, just because they look so much better, like in these:

shoot RAW at AWB, then during PP, click for white balance. This is the best way. Save your time and hassle free.
