I am about to take the plunge into the world of dSLRs and, having read lots of reviews, and being a happy canon customer in the past have settled on a canon entry 300d dSLR.
... and then the 350d comes along. There is a ~£200 difference between the models but obviously the 350d has a higher specification, but are they worth the extra £200, or could that be put to better use? I expect to use the camera for mostly landscape and family type shots, printing up to 10x8s, but also hope to take a photography course soon to extend my skills and experiment more.
What are the killer differences between the two that would make the more expensive purchase the preferred option?

The 350 says hello when it starts

I have the 300D-Rebel and if I was just going to purchase today it would be the 350D-XT.
The smaller size isn't an issue for me, but I'll gladly take the extra mega pixels and larger buffer vs. the D-rebel.

It actually *says* "hello" or just displays "hello" on the screen? - such a killer difference could swing it for me.

If your buying new yes the 350D, one thing to consider if your just getting into dslr's is here and at F.M. market place forums it is a buyers market for used 300D's. Last week I picked up a used 300D body in great shape for $425.00. Just another option. Good luck in your search.

The Killer differences are;
Selectable metering modes
Selectable AF modes
Custom Functions (particularly CF4 to seperate the focus and metering)
ETTL II (better flash metering)
Flash Exposure Compensation
Mirror Lock Up
(the last 2 are available on the earlier camera by hacking the firmware)

I have a 300D but I have to say having had a look at the 350D, the autofocus on the 350 is better/faster than the 300D.
If it wasn't for the size of the 350D I could have regretted buying the 300.

Yes, I waited for the successor to the 300D, assuming all the features enabled by the 300D hack would be in the 350D. They were, pretty much. I am happy with my purchase.
