Yesterday I followed a flight of Tundra Swans around . . . I think this is as close as I was able to get. They are moving through to the north, but we are blessed for a moment to have them. The marshes are filling up with Pelicans, Blue Herons, Swans, Geese and Ducks. Our wintering population does not know what to think of the influx of 'out of towners' but will get through it ok. Beautiful, beautiful animals, I just love them.

I love the swans and this is beautiful. Last time we were in Yellowstone, there was a huge flock of them flying low over the lake....I could have stayed all day and watched them.

When I go out to photograph wild birds like that, I begin thinking:
"Let's see, the sun is over there, so I want to be over here. There is a better background right there. Hmmm. F-stop, shutter, ISO. Hmmm."
After I have been out there for a few hours, I am thinking:
"Gee, I wonder what those birds think. Where are they coming from, and where are they going to? How do they get along with their mate? Where are their offspring?"

I have had to give up on trying to 'out fox' them . . . they come from where they will and go the same place. One can only make a guess of the position and settings and deal with same as best you can. These have been hard to get close to ...
I do think they know where they are going and where the kids are too, until they are the equivalent of bird teenagers.
My kind thanks to all.
