I'm thinking of making the jump to full frame for this type of photography. Curious as to what you all would think.

The reason I am considering this, is due to the generally overall better focus with FF cameras, and the superb ISO performance.

Currently I have a 40D, with a 70-200 2.8 IS, and 3 other lenses which will only fit on crop cameras. Their value totals about 1300 dollars.

If I sold off my 40D, and all the lenses minus the 70-200, I would have around 1900 dollars. Curious if this is worth it, or if I should just stick with the 40D for a few more years. It was my first DSLR, and has served me well, but at the same time, I want something more.

Was looking at a used 5d + 1 more lens to go with it. Any thoughts?

Thoughts?

This should probably be in the discuss section. I'm in a similar position, but in no dire need to switch to FF. Maaybbee might upgrade to the 50D. My 40D treats me well, I am going to try to get some more glass first. By time time I can even fathom switching to Full Frame, I assume the 60/70D or 5D mkiii will be out.

I'm not sure what you mean by better focus, but the 5D isn't really better than the 40D in that regard. The 5D has 9 points (1 cross type) with 6 hidden assist points in the center of the frame, while the 40D had 9 selectable cross type points. Personally, I find the 40D system to be a little better in low light.
For high ISO stuff the 5D will give you about a 2/3 stop advantage once the image is resized to match the 40D and it should give you an overall slightly crisper image out of the camera. It is a slight difference more than an earth shattering one. The 5D files do seem to have a slight advantage when it comes to processing, but it is hard to quantify.
Imho, the main reason I'd switch to a 5D from a 40D would be for FOV reasons. Mainly, there are more options for fast wide angle lenses when you go to FF.

I think it kind of depends on what your other lenses are and what you'd be getting if you went to the 5D. I don't think I'd want to give up good glass options to go FF.

For better focus, you (probably) want a 1D series, or a 40/50D. Not a 5D.
All else being equal, the AF points on a FF are to close together IMO.

Also, you'll have less DoF. Not always a good thing IMO.

Noise is overrated. My 1D2 is fine at 1600, pretty usable at ISO 3200.
