Rick's '79 Pontiac Trans Am was used to run moonshine in Tennessee. When he bought it, it had two bullet holes in it and a flat side from when it was pushed into a guard rail.
It has a 400cid, 350bhp motor, 4-speed transmission & a 3.77 rear end.
He's had it since 2001, drives it 1,000 miles a year, & spent 2 years restoring it. The plate says "BAN IT" because he couldn't get the BANDIT plate... yet.
Truckers salute it with their horns when he goes past! LOL!

Beautiful car, Burt Reynolds would be proud!!
I'm assuming he trailers it, which would explain the chain hanging from the right rear spring perch.?

LOVE IT Frank! :D I see he even has the WS6 wheels. (They are wider than the standard honeycombs) ;)
I can't begin to tell you how many hours of pleasure I got from my 78 Bandit.

I was born the same year the movie came out, so maybe I don't remember correctly...but isn't the movie plate BAN-ONE (maybe not in the second movie)?
Nice shots. My dad had a '77 400 T/A that he sold for a '79 Mustang Cobra I-4 turbo.

I think this car is the ugliest trans am ever made, but i give respect to the shots taken and the time put into building that car.

Sorry, somewhat off the main topic, but this is excellent reading for fans of the movie - some big differences in this early draft of the Smokey and the Bandit script.

Things like...placing a BANDIT plate on a T/A for instance.

Around here, almost nobody who had a really hot one would be seen with the "chicken" on the hood. "Almost" because there was one guy with one of the hottest T/As who put it on for reverse psychology. Newbies expected it to be slow.
I expected this one to generate a wide range of comments! ;) Thanks, & keep them coming. chain hanging I expect so, but I didn't ask.

Great looking car... I've got a WS6 that's 20 years older than that exactly! Hence my username!
Here's a pic... Didn't mean to steal thread.\

Great shots, love that car. I know I'm showing my age but when I was a Junior in High School we would leave school on Friday and head to my friends house to start washing and waxing his older brothers 78 TA, Store the tops, pool our money for gas and cruise the miracle mile. Hang at the White Castle till the wee hours.... Not my pic but showing the 78 nose (my personal favorite) versus the 79 Turbo nose. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q112/aerton1/78TA.jpg

Nice set. My buddy had the same car a while back, we had a blast in it. It was in descent shape but not pristine like this one

Not trying to hijack your thread Frank, but rather show why I like your photos here so much.
This was taken with film, and all I have left is this slightly degraded scanned image. :(
Also a bit dusty due to my location at the time. These where behind the house in a rural area outside of Vegas. The TA is a 78, while the Formula is a 74. Yeah, I like Pontiac's, and yeah, these were "both" mine. :D
PS, The TA was QUICK, even though it has the Bird on the hood. :p

Good story. I assume that your brother was driving it? pool our money for gas :D Everyone I knew was "car poor" back then! all I have left is this slightly degraded scanned image. You can probably clean that up. In the old slides of my '53 Olds, even the trees were red. ;)
Thanks for the comments.

Noted, I'm a newbie in this forum been reading to see what and how things flow. Just got excited when I saw the burning chicken on that hood. I love cars so I will be a bit of a regular here even if it's not posting for a while.
Thanks Frank

I saw a black one with the chicken up for sale when I was coming back from up north today. It was in the lot of a body shop that rebuilds classics for sale. Not sure what year, but the price on the window was $10K. Any takers?
