i had the powershot a70 before and sold it and now have a powershot a510.

however after taking photos with the a510 there is a considerably longer gap after i take a photo. sometimes for just one picture i have to wait 5 seconds. may not seem like much but that doesnt leave me enough time to take several pictures as i end up waiting for the black screen to go away.

i'm using a kingston 512mb sd card. any advice?

Mine hasn't been that slow unless I am using flash and waiting for the flash to recharge.

There is still a second or two while it writes but it really isnt bad at all. My card is a KingMax 256 60X:

Just looked up Kingston 512 cards, and according to this page it is much slower than the one I have so that could be your problem 10mbs vs 2 mbs

Hope that helps.

i heard that these cameras (a510s) dont benefit much from high speed cards, so i went with what i had before. (although before it was compact flash).

but the lag times are pretty bad now.

can anyone confirm this? do these cards have a noticeable speed increase from a faster cf card? what puzzles me is that my a70 was fine with a standard CF card.

SD being small, has a 4-bit databus while compact flash has a 16-bit databus. This means, CF has more pins and hence can move around data faster..

I am thinking about getting the A510 and so got an SD card and put it in one at a local best buy store. I didn't really notice any problems with lag but I wasn't really focusing on that particular feature. The camera I thought was a little bit slow on showing and browsing through menus.

yeah the menus are slower than the a70. but the picture captures a lot slower for me. i'm using kingston 512mb sd cards. it gets annoying pretty quick. sometimes its black for quite some time.

What card you do recommend to get fast response time?

Have you formatted the SD card recently? Over time flash devices' performance slows down if they are not re-formatted periodically.
