I have just moved from a Canon A2 to a Canon D30 and would like some advice. Here are two of my recent picture. I don't have much experience with photo editting other than the basics and I have never used a RAW image before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I really like number 2. The shadow is a bit distracting behind his head. I think if you can crop it closer, get rid of the shadow and some of the sweater, it would be really nice. Maybe bounce the flash off the ceiling or diffuse it some. It seems a like it migh have too much light on his face. If you move him away from the wall you'll be able to decrease the shadow?
