Hi All, Could you please assist I was testing my 1D2 Focusing when I saw this noise . Should it be so obvious at 400 iso and such a high shutter speed . Is it the camera or me . If this is Jpg thing I need to seriously consider send the camera back . Because I was not getting this much noise from my weany D1h . You could say I am dissapointed at the moment . However if its me I am willing to learn to love it .
any suggestions welcome .

Was shot correctly exposed? Did you by any chance to increase the brightness in post processing? Also can you show us a 100% of hightlight area and shadow area? Did you shoot RAW or Jpeg? If RAW, which program did you use for post processing? DPP produces much less noise than C1 Pro.
From what I can see, there is hardly any noise visible to my eyes.

I think my 20D has a little less noise, but that doesn't look too bad to me.

Otta, just a couple of comments. Noise in dark OOF areas is perfectly normal, no matter what the camera and yours is as good as it comes at ISO400. A bad choice of area for focus by the way. Canon use differences in contrast for focus and something as shiny as chrome is asking for trouble. You should have really shot that in Tv mode, but the choice between motion and frozen action is yours. In Tv the car would have had to be exceeding 100mph at 1/400 to be any problem.
All that using Av at 5.6 has done is shove the shutter speed way up, no other benefit. Judging by the harsh shadows there was enough light for ISO200 anyway. But that is an aside.
I can assure you there is absolutely nothing wrong with your MK-II, just a matter of getting used to driving/understanding it by the sounds of things. It is no different to mine or any others where I have seen 100% crops.

The tarmac in shot 1 looks pretty bad, but that is most likely not what you are referring to
J/K, compare it with a film 400 ISO shot and you'll realize how good the camera actually is.
Best regards,
Andy
