I have a question for you wedding pro shooters.
If you are using a 1D with a 1.3 crop what wide
angle zoom would you choose between the
16-35mm f2.8 or the 24-70mm f2.8 and why?
Thank you.

Hmm. I'd hate to be a loser, but I would probably choose the 24-70L for the extra reach. 24mm was almost wide enough on my 40D, and I'd imagine it would be "just right" on the 1.3x bodies.

16-35 is wide angle. 24-70 is normal. Generally 24mm on FF is wide enough, in the past 20 weddings i've used wider than full framed 24mm at one wedding. But when you need wide, you need really wide, for things like ceremonies in tight spaces when outside venues are rained out.

Ultimately, both lenses have different purposes, and as tim says, the 24-70mm on a 1.3x crop body isn't really a wide angle zoom. If you plan to get both in time, then go for the 24-70mm first as this will allow you to get more shots, but if you already have the telephoto end of this lens covered by another zoom or primes then go for the wide angle 16-35mm.

Thank you guys for the info. Pretty much what I thought.
The 24-70 is a 31-91 on a 1.3 crop body and that is not
wide. Not sure which one I will go with yet. Thanks for
your input.
