For a Canon 50D(15 MP)or a 5D MKII(21 MP)DLSR camera,would upgrading from a Sandisk Extreme III to an Extreme IV have any benefits?If yes or no,why?
Thanks.

Yes, because the newer (digic 4) camera take advantage of the extra speed in UDMA cards, whereas the older ones did not...

If you use burst mode a lot, or if download time matters, get the Extreme IV. Otherwise, whatever you feel like getting.

I agree

If shooting raw on the 50D the UDMA capability of the card/camera makes no difference on the buffer capabilities, it does with jpegs however.

How can that be?

It's what it says in the manual (page 61)

Well I guess it shouldn't make a difference on the buffer, just how fast it clears...

Ah, I see. Interesting, I would have though it would increase the RAW side some.
To me, that means it really wouldn't be worth the upgrade unless you regularly shoot 10+ second Jpg-only bursts.

My thoughts - I bought a couple of 8Gb Extreme III cards for £34 each rather than Extreme IV's for nearly double the price - I only shoot raw and don't need the jpeg burst rate.
I'm not familiar with the 5D MkII figures though.
EDIT:
Have just looked up the 5D II figures and you gain 1 shot in RAW mode (14 shots compared to 13) In sRAW the figures are identical

Yeah, I wouldn't personally spend the extra. I honestly don't even notice the difference between my Ultra II's and Extreme III's in my MkIIn, but I almost never shoot bursts of more than 2-3 shots and always shoot RAW.
The increase in download speeds (with a UDMA reader) may be important to people that do on-site viewing/sales for events.

Agreed, downloading would be faster with the IV's (maybe even without the UDMA reader?) Personally I just import the raw's into Lightroom and go put the kettle on!
