All I can say if I was paying $100 an hour for this service and he showed up with that I would FLIP out! On the up side all your equipment will be paid off in about 4 hours!

Haha! HAHAHAHA!! I wish I could pay off all my equipment in 4 hours of work...i'd have to charge like, $1,500/hr. And i'm definitely not THAT good...

If you ALL are stunned by this ad, then all of you previously posting should be embarassed that you didn't notice his biggest flaw! Mamiya is a predominantly a Medium Format, not 35mm. If he is legit in using a 35mm Mamiya his camera is circa 1950s to 1980s which is the last year Mamiya made a 35mm format film body!

Which means he could still have one, so what's the "flaw"?.
I still have my 1979 Canon F-1, it just means he has an old camera.
But no, I don't use it for weddings.

I don't see anything wrong with using an older camera. I used 2 Hassey's for formals and a Canon AE1 for candid shots 3 years ago. One of my Hasseys was made in 1969 and pretty sure the AE1 was around the same time line.
Now I am not familiar with the quality on Mamiya's 35mm line but their medium format stuff was pretty good.
If anything, I think he/ she maybe overcharging for their apparent experience. Any consumer should be wary.

Suggesting that using a camera from 1980's era is a big flaw...

Can you imagine the type of customer who hires a wedding photog off Craigslist? I say he can have em! I bet he spends half his time dealing with complaints and figuring out refunds, even if his work is top quality.

I think ya'll are missing the point. He's out there pitching, and has a credible webstite. He's not looking for the people who are willing and able to drop $2K+ on a wedding package. His customers don't know (or care to know) what bokeh is or whether or not he's shooting with a 12 megapixel DSLR. They probably think that 'full bleed' is a mortal injury.
He's out there making money and we're in here acting superior. He's more justified in laughing than we are!

I would tend to agree with you except he goes to the trouble of point out his equipment list:
"I use a Canon SX10IS and a Kodak 650Z as a backup, and can use my Mamiya 35MM film camera if you want."
I take that as his attempt to impress me... which makes me kind of question his perception of the quality of his own work... I mean does he think he is better than he really is?

I don't think wedding pro's need to worry. The people who will choose this option will likely be happy with the results.

Well, he's an older gentleman and just getting into trying to do this so is probably behind the times, and if he's like two older sports shooters I know may not care (though they had been shooting for 20+ years and just didn't want to adapt to digital). Could care less about what gear he's using as opposed to the job he does with it, old or new, doesn't matter. That leads to his portfolio and it's far from top notch results, needs a lot of work but who knows if he'll take the time to do this. Really, he's not misleading anyone that's for sure - the people who hire know what they're getting, and the pros in the area won't have to worry when people are looking for results over price. Now if it was a 21 year old with the same approach would find that a lot different, 21 year old has a lot more time to learn the craft and then start a business.

Laughable? Maybe...
Still, give this guy credit:
He states what gear he uses. Maybe not to impress anybody but to advise people of what they may expect beforehand. He's being honest and he gets business.
Who gives a damn? He makes money and obviously people appreciate it. From a photographer's point of view, the photos are laughable and the equipment is inappropriate, still. He sells! :p

ok... not to be a smart a$$... but how can you be sure he makes money and gets business? His portfolio consists of what appears to be 3 casual outdoor weddings... one of which might be his grandparents..
Don't get me wrong.. hat's off to him if he can make a buck... but i don't see how anyone can tell by looking at his website how successful his business is...

"My main camera is a holga and I have a shoebox pin hole as a backup to guarantee quality images during your wedding"
What can you expect though when being a photographer is the new "in" thing. If you aint one then what are ya, huh?

So wrong... but so true!
Anyone else find it scary that he says that he'd like to add a few more weddings to 09'? That would imply that he is already booked for a few.

It is ok to make fun of my site and what and how I do weddings.I work 50 hrs a week at my full time job, help my wife who has cancer and still book two weddings a month. That is all I want to do.The people I do weddings for are happy and do not have to spend thousands of dollars for a few memories that I can give them.As to my equipment it works fine for me.You are right,my Mamiya is 28 yrs old and still works fine. The Canon SX10 is a fine camera for what I do.I laugh all the way to the bank.

Part of being successful is pretending to be successful.
Who says he actually has weddings booked, even if he says he does (or alludes to it in this instance).
So naive.
