Hi. We are considering a Canon i9900 printer. I was wondering, due to there being 8 cartridges to replace, do most of the ink cartridges run out at about the same rate? What are the chances of needing to replace, say, 6 cartridges at once, or 8 cartridges? I know that this greatly depends on the subject matter printed, whether they are dark pictures, predominantly outdoor pictures, etc. So this may be hard to answer.

What I am looking for is what other people have found they needed in their usage-- i.e. how many cartridges to replace at a time, how much this costs, and how long people go before needing to replace cartridges. In other words, I am looking for the average recurring costs for medium to heavy usage ('course I know that is relative, but I'd like an idea).

Also, where do most people buy their replacement cartridges from?

Thanks,

Jessica

No, they don't wear out at the same rate. For example, I take a lot of photos of Union Pacific locomotives which are predominately yellow. I go through a lot of yellow cartridges. I also have a lot of sky in my photos, so I seem to use a lot of cyan and photocyan.

I have noted that the cartridges tend to go in pairs,
photo-magenta and black
photo-magenta and photo-cyan
photo-magenta and yellow
magenta and cyan
photo-magenta and green
(you may begin to notice a trend at this point)

The most I have ever had to change out in one batch (ignoring when I was doing 60-80 8.5x11 borderless prints) was three went within a few prints of each other. Otherwise they seem to go about 10-20 prints apart.

Unlike Belmondo, I tend to shoot models with few if any clothes on so that is probably why my Photo-Magenta goes so fast.

Just my experience,

Printing mainly portraits, I will empty 2-3 photo cyans and photo magentas to 1 of the other colors.

BTW, I keep 3 spares of each color on hand just to make sure I don't get caught short.

But on the odd occasion when you do get caught short, how does having spares help
