After searching the forum, I find there are lots of discussion on Demb Flip, LumiQuest, DIY index card, DIY foam variety, etc., but hardly any representative images from actual shooting locations, be it at a party or an event. Would you mind sharing your best sample photos with a brief info on what you used to shoot, what settings, and other useful info?

I put up 4 photos for an actual indoor event, http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=631056
(near the bottom)

I didn't use any diffusers or flash modifiers, just bare Speedlite only. I find it a bare speedlite gives better results than any diffuser or bounce card I've ever used

So we have many forum members who own one of these handy diffusers but don't have any samples to show? Are these not effective and therefore just collecting dust?

What I'm after is to see how effectively these can be used to display shots that the viewers don't even think about "Oh, flash was used...", that is, images of natural color and tone with no harsh or hot spots or those dreadful deep shadows... After all, we spend lots and lots of money invested in various gadgets just to accomplish this simple objective... So show me yours... :)

smorter - While I like your photos shot with bare flash, my point is exactly to see how you can avoid the images to EVIDENCE that a flash was used.

I shot a birthday party for a friend. My first time using flash in that kind of environment. I only used a business card on my 550ex so I can throw some fill light directly at the subject. Rest was bounce from the cieling. I will post some shots later tonight.

I use the flipit all of the time. I think its one of the most simplest professional looking add ons to the flash. I'll stick the jumbo fipit on my 580EXII or 430EXII. I commonly put the front diffuser panel on too.

You can flip the card backwards for less light forward. You can rotate the flash head to bounce on any wall you want and change the camera from portrait to landscape in seconds.

Joe Demb also has a generic "gel holder" that you can flip on or off in seconds. I just haven't gotten around in order that yet.

Smorter, I saw those pic and they look good. I do find on my calibrated monitor that they appear hot 1-3. #4 photo is well exposed out of all 4. I just find even using the catchlight card to work well with my 580EXII. In high ceilings and nothing to bounce off of the flipit has thrown more light foward and at the same time would bounce as much light as a bare flash.

I've even experimented with my lightsphere clone. I'll turn the head direct and use it as a heavy massive stofen. Not really a good investment since I use my flipit all of the time.

I use the flipit for everything from family/friend gatherings to quick portraits shots. I'll use bare flash for fill outdoors depending on how close I am to the subject or I'll shoot another remote flash.

Alan looking at them on reflection you are right 1-3 look a bit overexposed relative to 4 - especially 2 and 3. ironically it's more my style, and 4 looks underexposed to me LOL but thanks for the advice, I should roll back a bit on the exposure for a more neutral look

Smorter,

You have nice gear and you can see the IQ in your photos. Nice captures by the way.

A little Lightroom can do wonders in a matter of seconds.

with stofen diffuser and natural light from right.
I was doing head shots for the programme (Oliver)- my daughter is in the company & I usually do the Dress Rehearsal shots (without flash).
I was going to try & bounce the flash from the ceiling - but when I got to rehearsal, the celining was yellow, 40ft up and my batteries died.
I shot out quickly & got some more & did my best.
I was quite pleased as this is the first time I have tried this.

I know the 1st shot is a bit grainy - I had the iso too high - realised this & adjusted it later. As these are only small for the programme, it won't matter.
