Guys

I'd like to ask your opinions if I may.

I have a pro account on Flickr and have several hundred images posted. I belong to a group where I post images of Landmark Trust properties I've had holidays at.

I was on the group page a couple of days back and noticed a post from a member who had created a website of the different properties and other information. Along with this information are images taken from flickr, including some of mine, my moms and my sisters, neither of which knew anything about the site or been asked permission.

Today, I find out there is another site doing the same thing, grabbing flickr images and using them on their site.

Are these people allowed to do this without asking permission or because the images are on a public gallery does this allow them to do it?

Cheers

There are literally hundreds of websites that pull from flickr. Whether or not they are can legally depends upon your settings in your flickr account. My account is set to all rights reserved and the photos are registered in batches with the USCO.

if you log in, at the top you'll see a little "signed in as....." click your name, then click the privacy and permissions tab and you can check your current permissions. The main one you'll want to check on is
"What license will your content have "

TBH if you upload an image, data, videa etc with choosing to lock it properly. they have the right to.

So if I don't want to share my work, what setting do I use? At present the setting is all rights reserved.

That's the setting you want. Unfortunately, as you've seen, it won't stop them from stealing from you.

I think this is an important read:
