As Jo and I drove along the Gothic road above Crested Butte this past summer she noticed this small fox walking along the road. We drove past him and she was able to position herself so she had a clean background and waited for him to walk past.
Just as he reached the crest of the small hill he paused briefly before starting to move again. Jo was just able to capture a couple of images. Later when we processed the images we noticed a small butterfly above the foxes head in this one.
The image was shot that was taken at 400mm, 1/125 second, f5, ISO400. We would appreciate your thoughts on improvements. Thanks Jo and Phil

Interesting capture. However, in my opinion, the butterfly is too small to contribute much to the image and the fox doesn't seem to notice it's there. So there's nothing connecting them. Also, the fox looks over-sharpened to my eye. But then again, I prefer soft images.

I like the DOF. Everything so sharp up front with a beautiful blurred backdrop. I did notice the butterfly right away. I think it was a unique capture. I'm just sorry he wasn't facing you.

Oversharpened for me. Nice picture though.

Nice composition and nice capture. I like it. Fox looks like he just had a bath. Did you sharpen this and if so how much?

the fox and the butterfly are on two different focal planes, the blur is unrealistic

I think it looks over-sharpened as well. Not so much so in the foxes face but certainly with the background. Personally I would have separated the fox into it's own layer and cleaned up the background a bit more. Also to me the lighting looks a bit harsh here...but sometimes with shots like this there's not a lot you can do about that and you have to take what you can get.
It's a nice shot but I'm not really sure it's worth framing and putting on the wall.
Just my $.02 worth,
Jim

I think everything about the technical aspects has been mentioned. I would suggest, however, cloning or healing that butterfly a little lower into the frame. It might not have been what you actually shot, but I think it would greatly improve the composition.
